Play calling

Hindsight is 20-20. But I was puzzled by the Vikings' decision to try a long pass down the right sideline on 4th and 2 on the final offensive drive.
Anyone else wonder about that?

Hard to know for sure. But Childress and Johnson seemed to indicate in their interviews that they were thrilled that he had single coverage. Made it sound like that's the play they wanted.

Maybe ask them on Tuesday after they have time to view the tape. Watching it live I couldn't believe they were going for a TD when they needed a field goal to win and spent all that money to get Longwell. Three things seemed to be against this call:
1. Troy had dropped several balls this season, so he's a playmaker but he's not money.
2. Brad had already mis-fired at least twice in this game on the deep ball, he wasn't throwing it well that day. A veteran should know what is working and what isn't.
3. They didn't need 7 points or the 20 yards. They had over a minute left and needed 2 yards why get Longwell, Richardson, and Taylor if you won't go for it on 4th and 2 and play for the field goal? What a waste of resources.

They will never admit that this was a poor decision but results are what count and the result was poor.
