Reading the sign

One troubling comment from Sunday's aftermath came from Chicago Bears defensive tackle Tommie Harris. On the critical fumble, Harris said, he knew that All-Pro left guard Steve Hutchinson was going to pull.
"I saw that the guard was sitting kind of light," Harris said.
In other words, Hutchinson wasn't going to try to overpower him. He was shifting momentum away from Harris.
So Harris got a tremendous jump, and he blew through Hutchinson's hole before center Matt Birk could even get there.
Fumble, Bears recover the ball.
Give credit to Harris for making a heady play. But the Vikings clearly need to work on not giving away pre-snap hints.

Sean - whether or not Hutchinson has a "tell" I'm sure he'll hear about it and review his stance. On another note, despite the loss, it was one fun game to watch. This team will compete every week and will be respectable no matter who the opponent is. Mike Tice's teams seemed to work the extremes, winning big or losing games they shouldn't. I have to think the offense will improve, given the O-line is new and the everyone is learning a new system. Also, I like the way Childress rotates players in, creating experience on the depth chart. This helps a lot when someone goes down.

Last, I don't expect miracles from this team, but a playoff berth looks possible. This consistent, hard-nosed approach means we will show up and compete every Sunday. We may not have a lot of blowouts, but won't be blown out either. All three of the games thus far have shown this.

Good points. But at some point, the really good teams handle their business and shut teams down. If anything, I want to see them trounce the Lions, which clearly are not a good team.
