No surgery for AP?

Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that, "for now," the Vikings have decided No. 1 draft choice Adrian Peterson will not need surgery on his healing right collarbone but will continue to monitor the situation.

Peterson, a running back from Oklahoma, is expected to participate in this weekend's rookie minicamp.

I'm not a physician, shouldn't there be a better answer than we'll wait and see? The world's best orthopediest, Dr. Andrews, has cleared AP, hasn't he? Other than the clavicle breaking again, what exactly is there to wait for? This isn't a joint, and thus gets wear and tear. I don't understand what there can possibly be to 'monitor'. If a bone hasn't fused in the nearly 120 days since the Bowl game, I'm worried about osteoporosis.
