Another Rice on Vikes?

It'll be interesting to see if the Vikings make a play for veteran defensive end Simeon Rice, who was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers today.

Fox Sports reported that the Bucs terminated Rice's contract because he failed a physical. But after making the move, Bucs general manager Bruce Allen said Rice is confident he can play this season.

"He needs more time to recover," Bucs general manager Bruce Allen was quoted as saying on ESPN.com. "We felt now was the time to make the move. You let it drag on for weeks, it might not be fair to him.''

Rice has 121 career sacks and ranks second among active players behind Michael Strahan.

Rice, 33, appeared in eight games for the Bucs last season but ended up on the injured reserve on Nov. 22, 2006 with a left shoulder injury.

Hey Sean, Rice would be good. But let me ask you something. Who led the Vikes in sacks for a few years prior to his departure before last season? The same guy who was just released by Oakland after last season, and to my knowledge is available. Lance Johnstone. As a situational pass rusher he had 2 sacks and 12 solo tackles last season, and he didn't even play the last 5 games. Kenechi---0 sacks, 19 solo tackles for a full time player. Kenechi on the run; Lance on the pass. That and I think Lance would be a lot cheaper than Rice. With the uncertainty of Erasmus it would make sense.
