Bucs could add ex-Viking at running back

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers may have to settle for another former Viking running back selected in the fourth round.

While they inquired about Mewelde Moore last week, the Bucs are considering Ciatrick Fason to fill a roster spot, according to the St. Petersburg Times. The other candidates are Kevan Barlow, Shaud Williams and Tony Fisher, according to the paper.

The Bucs have lost Cadillac Williams and Michael Pittman to injuries and are desperate for some depth at running back.

One other intriguing point in the Times blog. Before Chris Simms was placed on the IR, the paper reported that Simms might be on the trading block.

Obviously he's done for the year. But, if healthy, would Simms have been an upgrade on the Vikings roster?

Curious to get some opinions.

Simms would be far from an upgrade, even on this squad, Sean. He's been much more erratic than Tarvaris Jackson or Kelly Holcomb, and he lacks the upside of Jackson.

Obviously, Minnesota's QB situation is a major worry, but Simms would only add to the clutter.

There's no reason to add Simms because he hasn't distinguished himself at all. We would simply have another mediocre QB in the mix. Also, I've read that Bucs staff doesn't believe that Simms will recover from the spleen removal.

Are we talking about the same Chris Simms that has won a division, in spite of a poor OL on a team that was predicted to finish DFL in its division?

More erractic that T-Jax or Holcomb? What do you base this on? T-Jax hasn't looked erratic to me, he's been consistently out of his depth.

I'm not suggesting that Simms would be the second coming of Fran, but it makes a lot of sense to add Simms to the roster, bid Brooks farewell, and see how he recovers. If Childress is around for year three, you can be sure that we won't be taking a qb with our top 5 pick, so why not add someone with experience who could work out? That's more than what we have now.

Chris Simms is horrible. Haven't recovered from spleen surgery, What? I hate Vikings Fans. Horrible comments. Idiots. Jackson hasn't looked good so far but gotta have him play the rest of the season to see what he has. If he doesn't work Childress is gone and we can draft Brohm or another top QB this year. Set us back another 3 years but hey

Ciatrick Fason is slow and runs straight up. He's average, so he'd fit right in with the Bucs.

When Simms was in college, he said his goal was to go into coaching because he didn't think he had NFL caliber talent... I think he was right.

We do not have a QB at this point. Having a QB is important. Until we have a QB--and it could be T-Jax, but it's not now--we should continue to do whatever we can to find one.

Cronn: What do you think that Warner and Romo planned to do after college?
