Tomlin's name comes up for Pittsburgh job

Bill Cowher is still officially the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers. But Pro Football Talk, a popular website devoted to the NFL, suggested that the Vikings defensive coordinator makes a lot of sense to become the next head coach of the Steelers.
The website pointed out that Steelers chairman Dan Rooney is a proponent of the rule bearing his name, which encourages consideration of minority candidates, and he would like to hire someone young to stick around for a long time.
"(Mike) Tomlin, at 35, has five years' experience as the defensive backs coach in Tampa and one year as a defensive coordinator," the website said. "He likely would have had more time as a coordinator, but the Bucs are notorious for refusing to allow assistant coaches still under contract from accepting promotions short of head coach.
"And in one year with the Vikings, Tomlin has put together an excellent run defense."
Tomlin's popularity among his players will documented, and he has a knack for getting them fired up for games, except for the season finale against the St. Louis Rams.

Tomlin was one of the few bright spots for the Vikings this season. It would be a shame to lose him so soon. Childress is currently not the most popular figure with Viking fans.

Childress should be fired and Tomlin should be handed the reigns of this team. Childress cannot keep his ego in check and cannot let a proven offensive coordinator run the offense. The offense was pathetic this year. Chlidress is no offensive genius. Boise State's coach Peterson would do a better job running the viking offense. He should be given a chance to run this viking team. He certainly would do no worse.

Interestingly was Coach payton available when the vikings hired Childress. If so, the vikings blew up by hiring childress when they could have hired Payton. What about Mangini? Was he available when childress was hired? Both would have been better choices.

Hawaii Viking,
Yes, those guys were both available. The Vikings filled their vacancy before anyone else, which means they had first dibs.
Idaho dad. Are you really from there? If so, how about them Boise State Broncos?

I thought that Tomlinson put together the run defense. However, the facts show that their run defense became solid in 2005. At least the linebacker changes did not hurt the run defense.
