Kleinsasser accounted for
Just to follow up on an earlier post, TE Jim Kleinsasser was a part of the 8 a.m. workout group today.
Reporters were allowed to watch the 10 o'clock group, which featured the other three tight ends.
The Vikings recently asked Kleinsasser to take a pay cut from the $2.9 million he's scheduled to make in 2007.

Thanks for the update, Sean...
Kleinsausage is overpaid and underused. I think they gave him too much money to begin with.
even if he doubled his production - is he worth the price tag?
Randy:
I can see your point. Jimmy K. was given his deal under the Tice regime which featured the double-TE as its base formation. Now that we are a single TE, FB, team, having an outstanding blocking TE could be considered more of a luxury than a necessity.
However, the market has also increased dramatically. To use Brian Billick's term, there are now 'slapdick' guards that are getting stud left tackle money. We just gave a big contract to a lifelong backup that hasn't proven he can consistently block or receive, and it's not as though Shiancoe was playing behing the Cal Ripken of TEs, either.
On its face, $2.9 million does seem like a lot given the change in our offence (and if I may, the fact that heretofore Childress has not shown any ability to use TEs successfully).
Still, I think that we should also consider (a) his potential replacement, and (b) the opportunity cost that we lose in keeping him on the roster. Dugan and Owens are solid try-hard guys, but as SJ points out, we kept four TEs last year. I don't see any point in cutting Jimmy unless we have a better alternative, or a better way to spend the cap dollars. Frankly, I'm getting a bit tired of Childress' cutting ties with productive players and adding Bobby Wades.
