Schaub to Texans

So much for any Matt Schaub-to-Minnesota trade rumors.

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports that the Atlanta Falcons will trade Michael Vick's backup to the Houston Texans for a second-round draft choice and possible additional compensation. Foxsports.com reports that the deal involves two second-round choices and the teams also will swap first-round draft picks.

The Texans have been looking for a starting quarterback to replace David Carr, who reportedly could be had for a third- or fourth-round draft choice.

Vikings coach Brad Childress has downplayed the chances of adding a veteran quarterback.

I would certainly like to see the Vikings get Carr for a fourth round pick and allow him to compete. I really don't see a downside to it. If he is better than TJ and beats him out, fine. If TJ does very well and pushes Carr to number 2 or 3, even better. From what I have seen of Carr, I believe he can be successful in the NFL, especially behind a good line with a tough running game. He has not had either so far in Houston.

I agree with Shane. But the thing you're forgetting is that the Vikings don't have that much foresight!!

You mean Childress doesn't have that much foresight.

Carr has a high salary and the Vikes high 4th round pick should be able to get a good prospect.

I wouldn't give more than a 5th round pick and I wouldn't do it unless Carr agreed ahead of time to a pay cut.

You all know just as well as I do that Brooks nor Travarius can get the job done. You bring in Carr....the guy is a huge step up from what we have. Guy never had a chance in H-Town with that hideous offensive line, no running and only 1 solid receiver. Childress needs to win now, before he loses his job and Carr gives him a better chance to win than the bums currently on our roster. But Childress is an idiot, so he would never make the move.

Josh is right. What would Carr do for the Viks. He's a proven starter in the NFL. Remember he has never had a cast around him. 3-4 round pick, what did the Viks do with them last year? That's right nothing. Maybe they do have Cap Room...Did the spend that 30 million yet? Maybe we are playing a number one pick next year. Watch out Oakland

A 4th rd pick can provide a Brian Williams or a Jahri Evans (he would solved the Vikes RG hole).

What do the top franchises (Patroits, Eagles,...) do? Hoard their picks and spend their money wisely. Extra cap money this year can be used to extend existing player contracts and get free agents next year (if there is a key guy or good value player). Because of good cap mgmt, the Vikings haven't lost a key guy to free agency in the past number of years.
