Is Moss Green Bay-bound?

The Boston Herald, citing a source in Wisconsin, reported today that the Oakland Raiders are close to a trade that would send the former Vikings wide receiver to the Green Bay Packers in exchange for quarterback Aaron Rodgers and other considerations.

Packers CEO Bob Harlan told the Green Bay Press-Gazette that no deal is imminent.

Moss will never be great again, though he still might have some great plays in him, but not many. Really, I don't think he is worth the headache anymore. The pack can have him.

If Moss stays healthy, dare I say he'll be fairly good opposite Donald Driver and with Favre throwing to him. If they draft Marshawn Lynch or Greg Olsen in the first round they might have a halfway dangerous offense. Moss certainly matches up well against Antoine Winfield height-wise . . . he won't have Dre Bly covering him vs. the Lions . . . if he gives half an effort he'll be a force, but that's always been the case.

Good for Aaron Rodgers. If that rumor is true at least he'll finally get a crack at a starting gig. It may also mean that the Raiders will take Calvin Johnson with the #1 pick and one of either Russell or Quinn may fall to #7. Russell didn't blow anyone away with his 40 times yesterday but he'll still probably be picked before Quinn, depending on the team and the system.

The new NFLdraftcountdown 3-round mock has the Vikes taking:

Round 1. Jamaal Anderson, DE
Round 2. Anthony Gonzalez, WR
Round 3. Daymeion Hughes, CB

Any thoughts?

I like the second two picks a lot but I have my doubts about Anderson at #7. I still like trading down to somewhere between #10 - #20, getting a different WR, TE, or DE, and another draft pick besides if the best we can do at #7 is Anderson.

Also, is it crazy talk to suggest the Vikes draft Adrian Peterson?

I like the 2nd and 3rd picks as well and am not fond of the 1st round pick. I'm really not an Anderson fan. If the draft plays out the way NFLdraftcountdown thinks for the first six picks, I would think the Vikes would do better by taking Landry or Peterson, in that order. Landry looks like the real deal and safety is one of the weakest positions on the team. Smith is average, Sharper is old, Tank is unknown, and Blue might only be a hitter. As for Peterson, he would be exciting and I certainly wouldn't complain if he ended up in purple.

The best option would be to trade down though, if possible.

I believe Landry, Blue, Winfield, and Griffin would be a great secondary for years. In my mind, Landry is the type of player who could help take this defense to the elite level.

I just don't like the thought of Moss wearing a green jersey. He may not be the athlete he once was, but he's still a Viking to me. All of the "issues" Moss had seemed relatively minor and blown out of proportion. Squirting a water bottle at a ref... big deal!; leaving the game 2 seconds early... nobody would have even noticed had the camera crew focused on the field; going after the traffic cop... wouldn't we all like to push them with our cars at some point?; fake mooning the crowd... hilarious, not an issue at all (Stupid Joe Buck); taking plays off... I can't defend that. I still wish he would have remained a Viking for all of his career. Randy never wanted out of MN, our stupid ownership chose a coach (whom was fired the next year) over a player as a cop out. He was my favorite part of the Vikings back then, and the team hasn't had the same feel since he left.

As for that mock draft, I'd be amazed if Peterson dropped to #7. The players I'd want, in order, would go 1. Calvin Johnson 2. Adrian Peterson 3. Gaines Adams, any other guys I'd just trade down to another team that needs a QB or OL guy more. I really doubt that Peterson would drop down to #6 or later. He's too good of a back and had a great combine workout, so I think his stock has risen, not dropped. But, if he somehow dropped and could be along side Chester that'd become the top two back system in the NFL I believe. I just can't see Chilli pulling the trigger on him at that pick, but who knows. Wonder if he can also catch?

Kevin Curtis signed with the Eagles for a boatload of cash. I'm sure glad the Vikes didn't throw that kind of scratch at him. Now I hope they turn to Travis Taylor.

Ditto on the love for Moss. Would hate to have to play against him. He gets a bad rap as someone with a bad attitude, but don't see it that way at all.

I also like the Landry talk. More than the Jamaal Anderson talk.

Here's an interesting thought: the Pats own the 24th and 28th picks. According to the trade value chart, those two combined would get them around the 7-8-9 picks.

Maybe if the Pats really want someone at our spot, we could get those two picks, or a pick and a receiver....

It would kill me to see Moss in a Packer jersey. I cannot understand for the life of my why this organization, who is clearly in need of a number one receiver doesn't try and trade for Moss. He never wanted to leave, would be great in the dome even in Childress's pathetic offense and would sell tickets and jerseys. As for the off field problems, I look at it this way. Moss acted like an immature kid in some cases and in others it was simply stuff blown way out of proportion like the fake mooning. You wanna talk about off field problems? Leonard Little of the Rams drove drunk and killed a woman. He didnt go to prison, ended up with a superbowl ring AND got a huge extension from the Rams. I think killing someone is bit more serious than squirting a blind official with a waterbottle so please let's keep this 'Off the field issues' talk in perspective.
