Curtis decision coming
In Philadelphia to visit with the Eagles, free-agent receiver Kevin Curtis said he expects to have new representation this weekend and to decide on a team as soon as possible.
In addition to the Eagles, Curtis has visited the Vikings, Lions and New York Giants.
Curtis, who fired agent Tom Condon on Monday, said he intends to sign with Bruce and Ryan Tollner as early as Saturday.

I like Curtis much better than Wade and think he would be a solid addition. I don't think he would solve the Vikes receiving problems, but he would instantly be the steadiest pass catcher on the team, even if he can beat press coverage. A wonderful number 3 who would be forced to start, but at least you know what you are getting.
I agree shane. My only concern would be that if we somehow get Curtis. The tremendous triangle will decide that we no longer need to draft a WR in the early rounds (or not at all)and can focus on other positions. Wade and Curtis aren't long term fix-alls, they're more of turnicate
The Triangle: where leftover 3rd and #4 WRs come to play as starters, fail and get cut in a continuous loop. I am surprised we didn't overpay Lelie to come and drop some passes.
Ha ha, not to mention bring in every ex-Eagle and bring in washed up backup QBs that will eventually be cut. And, I believe Lelie was actually scheduled to come to Winter Park but was signed prior to making it here. Now the the Dolphins took Kelly Campbell, is Qadry Ismael still available?
I'd also love it if they signed Curtis but really only because he's the best of whats left. All of this "Bobby Wade is our slot guy" commentary seems to imply that a starting job is Williamson's to lose. I can only assume that whoever starts alongside him, if not Curtis, will be the Vikes' first day pick at WR.
If they don't trade up for Calvin Johnson I'd argue they should trade down to nab a quality pass catcher at a draft position where they'll actually get value. Don't know if the Jaguars want to trade up from #17 to grab Quinn or if the Steelers (at #15) want to trade up to get an ace DE . . . It could be a good spot especially if Adrian Peterson or Brady Quinn falls to #7.
at, say, #14 through #20, the Vikes would be in an ideal position to nab someone like Ted Ginn, Dwayne Jarrett, Robert Meachem, Dwayne Bowe, or the sole ace TE in the draft, Greg Olsen. And get another draft pick as a bonus.
I know Gaines Adams would be great, but there are some decent DEs after the first tier (could Charles Johnson be available at pick #7 in round 2?) and what about giving Ray Edwards more playing time?
Alright, some intelligent discourse. Thanks J. Ryan! I think you're right that, if who we really want is gone, we may be smart to move down. Problem for me is I don't particularly like the WRs sitting there with a first round grade (besides of course the almighty CJ). And one of them may fall back to the 39th pick anyway. Or if not, I really like Gonzalez, especially if we miss out on Kevin Curtis.
Thus, for me, there remains only 3 distinct scenarios worth pursuing:
-move up for CJ (1st and 2nd picks?) Then take DE with next highest pick available.
-stand pat for a DE. Grab WR second round.
-stand pat for Quinn. Grab WR and DE in next rounds, in terms of best value available.
It is good to see thoughtful commentary on the Vikings, it is a rare thing.
I have to say I would not be happy to see the Vikes move up for CJ. I think the move would cost way to much in draft value and also that moving into the top three is way to expensive contractually (especially in this years market). He would instantly become the highest paid guy on the team and I don't think any wide receiver in the league is worth that. I also think, though CJ's physical skills are unmatched, he disappeared in way too many games last year.
If the Vikes stay at seven, I would like to see Landry or Quinn drafted (if AP, CJ, Russell, and Joe Thomas are gone). Better yet though, I agree with J. Ryan that a move down would be the best move. I don't trust any of the DE's in the draft being worthy of that high a pick.
Given how much Rick Spielman loves draft picks, I have a hard time imagining him trade up. That would be very, very costly. That said, I would think he might even trade down. There's a lot of quality players in the middle of the first round.
Thoughts?
I don't see trading up as a possibility or a good option. I don't think there is a single player in the draft worth the cost.
As for moving down into the middle of the draft, it looks like the best value is there. It is not very top heavy, but very deep. I think if the Vikes can manage to get four picks in the first day, preferably in the first two rounds, it would be in their best interest to do so.
Yeah, actually I looked at the draft value chart and it's a big jump in points to that #3 spot. We'd have to probably give up a 1st, 2nd, and 4th. That's huge. I previously did it at the #4 spot and that'd only be a 1st and a 2nd, or a 1st, 3rd, 6th.
So maybe trading up isn't that feasible. It also depends on need. If we snag Curtis or someone else, we are way less inclined to do that. But if we're sitting there with Troy, Wade, and Kevin Carter come draft day, we better have some "sleeper" picks planned out.
That 2nd round slot is a killer, though. High in the 2nd; there's always a couple guys with a first round grade that fall out around there. We did great getting Showtime (Hook 'Em!), hopefully we'll repeat with a sweet pick.
Shaun McDonald just signed with the Lions (reuniting another former Martz player with Martz) so I wonder if this means they're out of the Curtis hunt?
I keep hearing that Curtis wants to play for a warm-weather, west coast team that's a playoff contender. Last I checked, there's only one team that fits that description (San Diego) and although on paper it sure looks like they could use a guy like Curtis apparently they haven't called him. The remaining bidders for Curtis's services (Minnesota, Detroit, NY Giants, maybe Philly) are obviously 1 out of 3 at best.
If the weather really is a big issue for him, maybe Minnesota gets an edge over NY and Philly because the Vikes play in a dome, as Curtis has for his entire career.
We shall see.
