Wade signs

The Vikings have signed former Tennessee Titans wide receiver Bobby Wade to a five-year, $15 million contract that includes $4 million in guarantees.

Coach Brad Childress said Wade is a proven slot receiver who can double as a kickoff and punt return man.

Wade said the Vikings were his only free-agent visit, even though he had other offers, and are a perfect fit for him.

Wade is expected to step right into a starting role with the Vikings, but Childress said the team would continue to look for receivers and wouldn't rule out St. Louis Rams free agent Kevin Curtis, who is in the process of changing agents and has put any contract talks on hold until early next week.

Give me a break...we overpaid 2...that's right 2 career backups to come in and basically do nothing more than the rest of the guys we let go do.

Drop balls on a constant basis, have a hard time getting open, getting off the line and finding holes in the defense.

There is a reason these guys have never been starters...they are mediocre at best.

I like Spielman's idea about youth but the people being brought in are not the answer.

What are the chances that they'll look into signing Joe Horn? I know that he gained notoriety with his celly-bration but he's also a very good receiver & he was the heart & soul of the Saints.

I like the signing of Wade as a third receiver and return guy. Contrary to the report, I do not believe that anybody, including Wade, expects that he will be a starter. He is a good slot guy though and a decent return guy, though he doesn't have real speed. Hopefully he is fighting for a roster spot with about eight other receivers by the time preseason starts. Personally, I would like to see Horn sign as well.

Looks like the Vikes are going 2nd tier all the way in FA.

Wade has chronic fumbleitis. Now we have one WR who can't catch and another who CAN catch, but then fumbles when he's hit.

If the Vikes sign a fumble recovery specialist they will be set.

I don't really blame them for going second tier this year as the first tier of free agency consists only second and third rate players getting paid all pro money. I say it is best to stay out of the big money trap this year, with the possible exception of McMichael.

The Seeholzer article -- the headline anyway -- seems rather conclusive in regards to the Vikings WR search. I'm hoping it's wrong -- I know other sources have speculated that the Vikings WR search is not over.

With Kevin Curtis in a self-imposed limbo until this weekend I wonder if any more WRs are even scheduled for visits.

Also, does anyone recall who the Vikings spoke to at the combine, in terms of WRs? I've read that they spoke with QB Brady Quinn and SS John Wendling but I don't recall who else . . . remembering that these combine interviews may be as much smokescreen as a tipping of the hand anyway . . . just curious as to who in the draft they may have their eye on or who they perceive may be a good fit for this offense.

To be fair to Bobby Wade, he has only three career fumbles, though he has muffed more than his fair share of punts. Muffed punts are a coaching problem and hopefully that has been cleaned up.

Hopefully the Vikes talked to every WR at the combine and draft at least 2 of them on the first day. I don't know that there is a list that says who all they had formal interviews with at the combine, but it would be interesting to see one.

Dan Barreiro (so take it for what it is worth) said he muffed five punts in 2005 when he was with the Bears. Barreiro is a Bears fan at heart and seems to pound on them because of that, so it is hard to tell if he is accurate or bitter. From what I have read, he seems like he is about the most bitter guy in the world.

Either way though, muffing punts is definitely a concern if it hasn't been cured by coaching. However, Moore is a much better punt returner anyhow so hopefully Wade is mostly used on kickoff returns.

Coach appears to be doing a fine job of giving the next coach a top 4 pick in the 08 draft. Les Steckel anyone????????!!!!
