Bethel Johnson to Texans
Former Vikings receiver Bethel Johnson has signed a one-year deal with the Houston Texans, according to the NFL Network.
Johnson, a second-round draft pick of the Patriots in 2003, started two games for the Vikings at receiver and returned 45 kickoffs for 1,054 yards (23.4 average).

Any idea why they let Bethel go?
I kind of liked him last year, and as far as I can tell they don't have any slam-dunk KRs on the roster that could definitely beat Bethel for the job, unless they're convinced that Bobby Wade is over his fumbling ways.
Best I can figure, the WRs most likely to make the Vikings roster seem to be:
1. Troy Williamson
2. Sidney Rice
3. Bobby Wade
4. Aundrae Allison
with Billy McMullen, Martin Nance, Jason Carter, and Chandler Williams being the most likely candidates for the #5 role. Maybe they'd carry 6 if one of these guys ends up being a return specialist.
That list doesn't strike me with inalienable confidence.
However, I really, really like Jason Carter, and although I don't see what Childress sees, I don't understand why that guy doesn't get more respect given what appears to be a strong rapport with T-Jack and an ability to step up and make the most out of his (sadly limited) opportunities.
And we don't even have the Vikings' usual cast of preseason WR hopefuls --- they're all elsewhere -- Christopher Jones (Seahawks) , Ryan Hoag (Redskins), Aaron Hosack (Saints) . . . it's a shame because I liked all of those guys, two of them have Minnesota connections, and this of any could've been their year.
I'm bummed that they cut Paris Hamilton after what, about a week? What about him was so bad they couldn't at least bear to have Thigpen throw to him in the 4th quarter of a preseason game?
But hey, Kelly Campbell is available . . .
Bethel was exclusively a receiver, and he didn't really stand out. I think the race is wide open, but I think Jason Carter has a chance at PR.
